Russia Seeks No Quarrel with Estonia, Kremlin Says

(MENAFN) Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov insisted Sunday that Russia harbors no hostile intentions toward Estonia or any other European nation — but issued a stark nuclear warning should Tallinn allow atomic weapons on its soil.

"Estonia is very close to us, and we don't threaten Estonia, just like any other European country," said Peskov. "However, if there are nuclear weapons on Estonian territory aimed at us, our nuclear weapons will be aimed at Estonian territory."

Peskov reinforced the conditional threat by emphasizing that Russia "will always do what it must to ensure its own security, especially when it comes to nuclear deterrence issues."

The remarks came in direct response to a recent statement by Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna, who signaled that Tallinn had not ruled out hosting nuclear weapons on its territory — a disclosure that swiftly drew Moscow's attention and prompted the Kremlin's pointed reply.

While Peskov framed Russia's position as purely defensive, the warning marks a sharp escalation in rhetoric between Moscow and the Baltic states, raising fresh concerns among NATO allies over nuclear posturing along the alliance's eastern flank. No further clarification has been issued by either government since Peskov's comments were made public.
